RetroWeather is developed by Dave Davis. This policy describes information handled by the RetroWeather app, its supporting services, and the RetroWeather website. Features and data flows vary by platform, app version, permissions, and purchase tier. RetroWeather does not require an account to view weather.
You can select a weather location manually or, with permission, use your device's location. We use the selected location to retrieve forecasts, observations, radar, maps, and alerts. Requests to weather and mapping providers may include coordinates, a place name, station identifier, or the geographic area being displayed. Air-quality requests pass the selected coordinates through our backend to retrieve and cache AirNow reporting-area observations and forecasts.
The app stores saved locations, settings, selected music, and cached weather on your device. Location information is not limited to a city name: saved or requested locations may include precise coordinates. Local caches support performance and continuity when a weather service is unavailable.
When the app registers for notifications, our service receives a push token, installation and app identifiers, app version, device and operating-system information, locale, timezone, purchase tier, and notification authorization status. Registration can also include the selected weather location and its coordinates, location name and source, notification categories, delivery schedules, and last-active time. We use this information to configure and deliver the notifications you enable, such as weather alerts, precipitation updates, forecast summaries, or product announcements.
You can change notification categories and schedules in the app and manage notification permission in system settings. Turning off notifications prevents authorized delivery but does not itself guarantee immediate deletion of an existing server registration or historical records.
Our services receive events about app activity and purchase flows. These can include app launches, feature interactions, music or presentation selections, feature gates, announcement views, offer interactions, purchase or restore results, and associated feature metadata. Event records include timestamps, purchase tier, app version, platform, device model, operating-system version, and an app-generated installation identifier. Our server also records network information, such as the connecting IP address.
The installation identifier persists across app launches; it is not a new anonymous identifier for each session. We use these records to understand feature use, troubleshoot problems, evaluate purchases and offers, and improve the app. We also use app version, purchase tier, installation identity, and announcement history to deliver relevant announcements and offers. Location and notification permission controls do not disable this app-activity reporting.
In RetroWeather 2.0 and later, you can ask us to turn off optional app-activity analytics, advertising attribution, freeze and crash diagnostics, and personalized offers based on app activity for a specific installation. Use the RetroWeather website form and include the support reference shown in the app's About section in your message. You do not need to send your Apple ID or a purchase receipt. When we process the request, our service stops accepting optional records for that installation and stops using it for behavior-based offers. The app learns this setting on its next connection and clears queued optional data. General service announcements may still appear. The request applies to that installation, so another device or a new installation may need its own request. It does not turn off website analytics or ordinary network and security logs. If you use an earlier version without a support reference, use the form with your app version so we can explain what can be identified and suppressed.
Turning off optional collection does not stop weather requests, notification settings you have enabled, StoreKit purchase verification, entitlement checks, or Restore Purchases. You can ask us to delete earlier optional records identifiable by the support reference in the same form submission as your opt-out request. Turning off collection alone does not automatically remove past records. The limits of deletion are described below.
Freeze reports can include a recent app checkpoint, scene and feature settings, purchase tier, device and operating-system details, and timing information. On supported platforms, Apple's MetricKit can provide hang and crash diagnostics, including call-stack trees. Earlier reports may include the selected location name or other app context. These reports help us investigate freezes and crashes and may be tied to the persistent installation reference; they should not be treated as fully anonymous.
On supported Apple platforms, RetroWeather uses Apple's advertising-attribution and conversion APIs. While optional collection is enabled, our service can receive an Apple attribution token associated with the app installation identifier and resolve it through Apple to campaign information, such as campaign, ad group, keyword, conversion, country or region, and interaction dates. These records may be associated with purchase events to measure advertising effectiveness. We can also receive Apple's privacy-preserving attribution postbacks.
Apple processes App Store payments. We do not receive your payment-card details. The app uses StoreKit to determine entitlements and restore eligible purchases. Our service receives and verifies Apple-signed transaction records, including the signed transaction data, transaction and product identifiers, an app-generated purchase token when present, ownership type, purchase, expiration and revocation dates, and offer type or identifier when present. It also keeps records needed to avoid processing the same purchase observation twice. We use this information for purchase verification, entitlement continuity, restoration, and support. These purchase records remain even when you turn off optional app-activity collection.
When optional collection is enabled and a purchase can be matched to a recent in-app attempt, an installation reference and limited offer or campaign context may also be attached to the purchase observation for measurement. A request to delete identifiable optional history can remove or unlink that context without deleting the Apple-signed purchase record. Payment processing by Apple does not mean that all purchase-related information remains exclusively with Apple.
The app retains music settings and selections to resume your chosen experience. Music-related interactions may be included in the activity records described above. Available music and controls depend on the app version and purchase tier. Apple Music account or library integration is not part of the current release; this policy does not imply that RetroWeather accesses your Apple Music library.
Our website uses Cloudflare for hosting, traffic delivery, security, analytics, and Turnstile spam protection. Website requests expose ordinary network and browser information to these services. The website also sends page path and query string, referring page, and viewport size to an analytics endpoint operated for our sites at protocol4d.com.
If you submit feedback, we receive the message, category, and any email address you choose to provide. The feedback service stores browser user-agent information, country, and a hashed IP value for service operation and abuse prevention. Turnstile receives information needed to assess the submission, including network information. Please do not include sensitive information in feedback unless it is necessary to resolve your request.
RetroWeather uses Apple services including WeatherKit, MapKit, StoreKit, notifications, and attribution. Depending on the feature and version, weather and historical data also come from NOAA/National Weather Service, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, ACIS/regional climate services, EPA UV Index and AirNow air-quality services, and Unidata/NEXRAD data hosted on Amazon Web Services. Our backend and website infrastructure process requests and retain the service records described in this policy. Providers receive the request information necessary to deliver their services and may maintain their own operational logs.
We may disclose information to service providers supporting the app, to respond to valid legal requirements, or to protect users and the service against abuse. Relevant provider information includes Apple's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Some information is stored locally and some on our services or those of our providers. Analytics, attribution, diagnostic, notification, purchase, and support records can remain after you close or uninstall the app. There is no single automatic deletion period covering all categories. Retention depends on the service purpose, support and security needs, and applicable legal obligations. You may request deletion of optional records we can identify by your installation's support reference using the contact method below. We can remove identified app-activity and attribution records, campaign history, and diagnostic reports tagged with that reference, and unlink optional attribution from purchase observations. Older diagnostic reports stored without an installation reference cannot reliably be matched to one installation, so we cannot promise to remove those reports in response to a reference-based request. Apple-signed purchase evidence, transaction and deduplication records, notification settings, and any records we must retain for legal, security, or accounting purposes are outside this optional-history deletion. We may need information to locate relevant records and verify the request. Do not send payment-card details, passwords, your Apple ID, or a purchase receipt for an opt-out request.
We use measures such as encrypted network connections and access controls to protect information. No service can guarantee absolute security. Removing the app removes its ordinary local app data but does not automatically delete server records, provider records, or device backups.
These controls have different effects: revoking a permission, canceling a subscription, uninstalling the app, and requesting deletion are not interchangeable.
RetroWeather is not directed specifically to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information that should be removed, contact us so we can investigate and address it. General app and service data flows are described above; the app's age rating is not a claim that no data is processed.
We may update this policy as the app and services change. The date above identifies this version. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required.
